
A group of unions is going to Victoria's Supreme Court, trying to stop the Labor Party pre-selecting candidates from the state for the next federal election.
Nominations opened this week and are due to close on Friday.
A federal takeover of the Victoria branch, following allegations of branch stacking by former minister Adem Somyurek, resulted in the suspension of voting rights for Victorian party members.
Mr Somuyrek resigned from the party but has denied the allegations.
A group of unions affiliated with the ALP, being represented by Victorian law firm Robinson Gill, filed an application to stop the process going ahead on Thursday.
Solicitor Tim Robinson told AAP that an order injuncting the ALP from pre-selecting candidates in 22 federal seats in Victoria was being sought.
Justice Tim Ginnane will hear the application on Thursday afternoon.
