Union Street police incident: Emergency services lock down city centre street as negotiators deal with 'man on ledge'

Police have been dealing with an ongoing incident near Glasgow Central Station with road closures and diversions in place.

Officers were called to Union Street around 12.40am on Friday morning following reports of concern for a person.

Police negotiators, ambulance, and fire crews remained on the scene until around 10.30am.

A police cordon was set up and the road was closed between Gordon Street and Argyle Street. Diversions were put in place for drivers.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “"Around 9.55 am on Friday, 30 July, 2021 a man was moved to safety by police following an incident at a hotel on Union Street in Glasgow City Centre in the early hours of this morning. He has been taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary as a precaution. Enquiries are continuing.

"Union Street has re-opened."
