VISAKHAPATNAM: The Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday inaugurated Rs 55 crore projects in Andhra Pradesh.
He highlighted the initiatives taken by the Prime Minister on Sagarmala Projects. He said, most proposals submitted by Andhra Pradesh were sanctioned and the government is always ready to render any assistance for achieving the developments in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
The Minister reviewed the progress of the port with Chairman, deputy chairman and senior officials of the port during his visit to Vizag. He inaugurated the Mobile Container Scanner facility and Sagarmala Convention Hall at Visakhapatnam Port in the presence of port chairman K Rama Mohana Rao, and the deputy chairman of the port Durgesh Dubey.
The minister inaugurated and laid Foundation stones for projects with an investment of Rs 55 crore, including the inauguration of the Mobile Container Scanner, set up by the port to scan the containers for radioactive materials at an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore. He also inaugurated Sagarmala Convention Hall at Saligramapuram: VPT has built this Convention Hall at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crore, which is towards the welfare of the employees of the port.
The minister also planted a tree as a part of encouraging green initiatives. During this financial year, VPT has spent an amount of Rs 4 crore or 4.5 lakhs of avenue plantation, MPs MVV Satyanarayana of Vizag, Dr Satyavathi of Anakapalli, G Madhavi of Araku, ZP Chairperson J Subhadra, MLCs PVN Madhav, and V Kalyani.
