Union J reunite for one-off concert and documentary after being dropped by label

Following in the footsteps of fellow boybands The Wanted and JLS, Union J are making a comeback!

The former X Factor stars are reuniting for a special one-off concert and a documentary about their reunion later this year.

Speaking about their return to the music scene, George Shelley, Josh Cuthbert, JJ Hamblett and Jaymi Hensley also revealed they were sensationally dropped by their label back in 2014.

Union J's upcoming comeback concert will take place on May 28, exactly one decade after their debut performance as a band on The X Factor.

The band originally started life as a trio, consisting of Josh, JJ and Jaymi, but became a four-piece after George was introduced to the group during the ninth series of the ITV talent show.

Union J managed to reach the semi-final of the now-axed singing competition and went on to release string of hit singles.

But shortly after the success of their 2014 album You Got It All, the boys were secretly dropped by their label Epic Records - with the dumping leading to their eventual disbandment.

Following being axed by their label, George went on to quit the group following a successful stint on on I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! in 2015.

Josh's departure in 2018 then left Union J down to two members, with the duo eventually winding things down.

"We never told anyone we were dropped by our label and we didn’t get an explanation," Jaymi explained to The Sun when discussing their upcoming reunion.

"We didn’t speak about it, we didn’t go out to new labels to try to get a new deal, so we just pretended we were still doing album No3. We were lying to ourselves."

Reality TV star George added: "Our dreams were crushed. I was suffering a lot with my mental health at the time and it didn’t feel like there was much going on.

"I still wanted to remain friends with everyone and Jaymi and I stayed really close, I’ve seen JJ a tiny bit, and Josh and I haven’t seen each other in six years."

On a more positive note, the lads were clearly excited to be back together once again - saying it felt "natural" to be singing together again.

After it was revealed Jaymi was the one to instigate the reunion, JJ confessed: "“We’re like four brothers. We’ve spent the last few days together and it’s so natural."

On Saturday, Union J began teasing their comeback via their official social media accounts - leaving fans excited about the prospect of new music.

Quote-tweeting a post from the band promoting an appearance on Monday's episode of Loose Women, one fan gushed: "My heart is so so happy! inner 13 year old me is screaming!"

Another added: "First JLS then The Wanted and now Union J! all my boybands really are coning [sic] back!"

Union J will perform their one-off concert at the London Palladium on May 28 2022.
