Union Bears' emotional Rangers Andy Goram tribute as fans honour late icon

Rangers supporters group The Union Bears have unveiled their tribute to Andy Goram after his tragic passing.

Fondly remembered as 'The Goalie', the Ibrox club confirmed he had died aged 58, following a short battle with cancer. He was told he only had months to live in the spring but revealed in a media interview during June that his time was short.

Tributes have poured in during the days since his passing was confirmed on Saturday by Rangers. Fans have paid tribute outside the Govan club's stadium.

Now the Union Bears - who help create atmosphere and banners on matchdays at Ibrox - have unveiled their tribute in one of the goalmouths, with a banner featuring Goram that simply reads 'The Goalie.' It's one of a number of poignant messages sent and fellow nine-in-a-row hero Ally McCoist has hailed his former teammate's bravery when facing his cancer battle.

Goram joined Rangers in 1991 from Hibs and spent seven years there before departing in 1998, most recently helping West of Scotland Football League club Cambuslang Rangers as a goalkeeping coach.

Camby co-boss Billy Campbell told Lanarkshire Live: “From the minute we met him when he came in, to the end – and we were fortunate enough that we spent a bit of time with him in hospitals and the hospice as well – right to the final time that we saw him, Andy was the same guy. What a character, and what strength.

“I saw a story where Ally McCoist spoke about the bravery of the man – he was unbelievable, it’s humbling how brave and strong he was. Still being the character, the way he got on with the nurses and the doctor, he was still making us laugh – an unbelievable character of a man."
