Union and TfL to meet in bid to avoid London underground strike next week

Tube and RMT union negotiators are to meet on Friday in a bid to avoid two threatened Underground strikes next week.

The two sides will sit down at the conciliation service ACAS in a last ditch attempt to avert the walkouts.

If the talks break down RMT drivers will walkout for 24 hours from noon Tuesday 24th August and again at midday on Thursday 26th August.

Transport for London has warned that the action will bring massive disruption to the network across all lines for four days. Some routes may have no services at all during the strikes.

The dispute is over a change in rostering arrangements that has brought dedicated part-time Night Tube drivers into the general pool of drivers.

TfL says this gives it flexibility to restore services back to normal as the pandemic eases.

But the union insists the move threatens jobs and the work life balance of thousands of its members.
