Uninterested in a single, MS Dhoni sends back Daryl Mitchell, who completes 'two runs'. Watch

NEW DELHI: In an unusual turn of events, Chennai Super Kings' MS Dhoni turned down a single in the final over to keep strike as his partner Daryl Mitchell effectively completed two runs and survived a run out against Punjab Kings.

The bizarre incident took place on the third ball of Arshdeep Singh's final over when Dhoni toe-ended a slice shot high up to deep extra-cover.

As soon as Dhoni made contact with the ball, Mitchell took off from the non-strikers' end. However, Dhoni was not interested in a single as he asked Mitchell to return.

But having already almost reached Dhoni, Mitchell made a touchdown at the striking crease and then hurled back.

As the throw from the fielder went wide at the non-striker's end, Mitchell, who would have been out by miles, eventually survived the run out. Despite Mitchell completing two runs, CSK tally remained zero.

Ruturaj Gaikwad's brave 62 on a sluggish Chepauk pitch and Dhoni's 11-ball 14 cameo took Chennai to a modest 162 for seven against Punjab Kings.
