Uninsured driver left in the doghouse after mixing up pet and car policy renewal

A driver who renewed her pet insurance instead of her car policy has had her vehicle seized by police.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police's Traffic division were on patrol in Bolton when they saw the woman's Saab.

They pulled the driver over on The Sheddings, Great Lever, after spotting the allegedly uninsured vehicle.

When asked about her policy, the driver insisted she'd just renewed her insurance, and officers worked to get to the bottom of the misunderstanding.

It didn't take long for them to discover that she had just renewed the policy she'd taken out for her pet, but despite a search, officers say no insurance details for the car could be found.

A picture of the car was posted on GMP Traffic's Twitter page along with a post about the encounter.

The officer said: "Driver of the Saab was stopped by ME14 on The Sheddings Bolton.

"She was adamant that she'd just renewed her insurance 2 days ago... turns out she was right.

"However this was her pet insurance, no car insurance found.

"Seized and TOR issued."
