Uninsured Audi driver was three times drink drive limit, say police

An uninsured Audi driver was found to be three times the drink drive limit, say police.

Northumbria Police Road Safety are determined to clamp down on drink driving over the festive period and their Motor Patrols Department have been out and about looking for motorists who pose a risk to the general public.

They stopped the Audi car in Sunderland during the evening - and the driver blew a breathalyser reading that was three times the drink drive limit, say police.

Not only that, but he was also driving without insurance, so his car was towed away, added the officers on twitter.

"Officers from our Motor Patrols Dept have been out and about tonight looking for drivers who pose a risk to the public by drink driving", read the tweet.

"This driver got behind the wheel with 3 times the legal alcohol limit in his system & no insurance."

It marked the end of a productive day for Northumbria Police as they also issued 11 prohibitions during a drink and drive operation earlier in the day on the A1, with one driver arrested for drug-drive offences, while another motorist is going to court for driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.
