'Unidentified item' in River Clyde sparks major emergency response at Bothwell

An unidentified item in the River Clyde sparked a huge emergency response near Bothwell Bridge.

Police and fire crews raced to the scene and launched a thorough search of the water after receiving the report at around 10:50am, though nothing was found.

Drivers have been told to expect delays as traffic has been backing up near the Raith Interchange this afternoon.

Ambulances and rescue boats were also spotted in the area.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "We received a report of an unidentified item in the river under Bothwell Bridge at around 10:50am.

"A thorough search was carried out by officers and Scottish Fire and Rescue with nothing of significance found. The search has been stood down."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were in attendance.
