Unhinged, a film in which Russell Crowe plays a man who stalks and torments a woman after a road rage incident, is set to become the first major film released in cinemas after lockdown measures are eased.
The psychological thriller is set to arrive on US screens on 1 July, months earlier than originally planned.
Mark Gill, president of Solstice Studios, the company behind Unhinged, told Sky Newshe was encouraged by polling data that revealed audiences are keen to return to cinemas.
“We are most definitely the canary in the coal mine,” said Gill. “We have some reasonable confidence that theatres will be open, but there’s a risk.”
“If things go wrong and public health departments need to shut things down, they should and they will.”
He added: “This is one of those steps that we all need to take toward getting back to normal.”
Unhinged also stars Caren Pistorius (Slow West) and Jimmi Simpson (Westworld).
Under current plans, cinemas in the UK will be able to reopen on 10 June. The coronavirus lockdown has caused many high-profile films to delay their releases, including the new James Bond film No Time to Die and Disney’s live-action Mulan.
