Unhappy Luke Shaw explains why Manchester United must "forget" win over Watford

Luke Shaw insists Manchester United were nowhere near their best in the 2-1 win over Watford on Saturday.

Goals in either half from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial handed the Red Devils victory in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first game as permanent manager.

That ensured United put behind them the back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Wolves , that preceded the international break.

However, United were some way from their best against Javi Gracia’s Hornets, for whom Abdoulaye Doucoure scored late on.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hints at Paul Pogba change after Man Utd's win over Watford

"We made it harder with the way we played,” admitted Shaw. "There were times when we weren't at our best.

"We were awful in the second half, we were lucky with the result. The most important thing is the three points.

"We had a few chances but we didn't take them. We need to get ourselves together again and focus on Wolves. We want to go there and get the win.

Shaw was delighted to see Rashford again net for United, the England striker returning from injury to lead the line and bag his 13th goal of the campaign.

But he admits that, amid the battle for the top four, United must simply forget this display.

"I'm always confident when Rashford's in front of goal, he likes to get in behind, it was a great finish and great composure.

"We need to forget about the game today because we were not at our best at all."

Shaw also handed his backing to Solskjaer, who was announced as the permanent successor to Jose Mourinho on Thursday.

"We feel really good and confident, and fully trust Ole," said Shaw.

"We're looking forward to working with him for the years to come."
