Unhappy Emmerdale fans make demand during emotional scenes

Emmerdale fans are calling for a character to be removed from the soap after emotional scenes that aired on Monday.

Arthur gave a moving speech at an LGBT+ History Month event held at the village church. Marshall's dad Colin, who is also a local councillor, turned up as the event got underway, shocking Arthur and Laurel.

Colin explained he was solely there in a work capacity, and refused to shake Charles or Ethan's hands.

Later, he told Laurel the contents of Arthur's speech were not acceptable for a church setting, having already seen to it that Arthur couldn't read the words out in a school assembly either. Marshall stayed to watch the speech, with his hood up to avoid being seen by his father.

Afterwards he and Arthur met up outside, as Arthur was not convinced Marshall is being true to himself about how he feels. As Arthur took Marshall by the hand, he told him he would have "loads of support" if he were to come out.

But their interaction was disrupted when Colin appeared, calling Arthur a "dirty little pervert" and telling Marshall to get in the car.

Fans watching at home were disgusted. Taking to Twitter, Jessica said: "#Emmerdale you seriously need to get rid of Colin he's making me so angry every time I watch", while @Shakywoon said: "Get lost Marshall's dad", and Doreen said: "How dare he call Arthur a pervert!"

Stephen said: "Arthur's speech was so powerful, and calling out vile Colin too. What an icon". Michelle said: "Marshall's dad is nasty, homophobic and ignorant".

Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX
