Unforgotten writer addresses 'niggle' that's been bothering lots of ITV1 viewers

Chris Lang's Unforgotten returned for series five on Monday, February 27, and viewers have been gripped ever since. While some have been watching the episodes weekly as they drop on ITV1, others have binged the six-part series after it was made available to watch on ITV's streaming platform ITVX.

The new season saw the return of Sanjeev Bhaskar's character DI Sunny Khan, only this time he was joined by DCI Jessica James, played by Sinéad Keenan, following the exit of Nicola Walker. The actress played DCI Cassie Stewart for six years from season one to four but left after her character died in a huge twist at the end of the last series. You can read more on what happened to Cassie here.

The new drama and character have proven to be a big hit among viewers, but some eagle-eyed fans have been left scratching their heads over one element, and even took to social media to ask writer Chris a burning question.

One viewer wrote: "I love Unforgotten, but one niggle - didn't Sunny have kids in previous series @ChrisLangWriter & @TVSanjeev? Have I mis-remembered this? If not, where are they?"

Responding, another fan commented: "I've been banging on about this for weeks!!! All we needed was one line saying they were at college or travelling or something."

While a third said: "He did and that has been bothering me a lot!" However, Chris took the time to respond to the original tweet, telling his social media followers: "They're both at Uni."

"I'm so glad it wasn't just me, and so pleased that the mystery has been resolved," wrote one viewer. "And l was thinking about this again tonight, so perfect timing too!"

While another added: "Amazing what some people pick up on. I didn't even consider it. Was way too much else going on." For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
