'Unfinished business' - Nottingham Forest ace sends clear message after signing

Jack Colback says he has “unfinished business” at Nottingham Forest, as he prepares for action in what will be his third spell at the club.

The midfielder has had two successful loan stints at the City Ground, but this summer returned permanently after leaving Newcastle United.

Promotion was the aim last time Colback was with the Reds, in the 2018/19 season - and it remains the goal this time around for Sabri Lamouchi’s side, having fallen agonisingly short last term.

The chance to achieve that at a club where he enjoyed himself previously, was, says Colback, a key factor in his decision to put pen to paper.

“It was probably my experience from the two times I’ve been here. I loved every minute of it,” the 30-year-old told the club website.

“When I signed the season before last, the aim then - as it is now - was to get promotion, and we fell short of that.

“So for me as a player, and the club as well, there’s unfinished business.

“I know the area and my kids were still in school here last year, so it ticked all the right boxes.

“Personally, I just want to play as many games as I can and help the team accomplish that aim of promotion.”

Colback has quickly felt right at home on the banks of the River Trent.

There may be a new manager in the hot seat and different coaching staff, but some familiar faces nevertheless populate the dressing room.

The former Sunderland man is one of five new arrivals so far, joining Tyler Blackett, Lyle Taylor, Fouad Bachirou and Luke Freeman.

And he is eager to help those players adjust, ahead of the campaign restarting on Saturday, with a trip to Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

“It was an easy transition, having been here before,” said Colback.

“A lot of the lads who were here when I was here before are still here, so in that sense it’s been fine.

“Obviously there’s a new manager and new staff, but it’s been great.

“Just knowing the club already will help.

“When you sign for a new club it can take a few weeks to settle in, but for me, it feels like I’ve never been away.

“Even though I’m a new signing I can help the new lads who have come in as well, because I know the demands of the club and I know the demands of the fans.

“I’ll just try to relay that to them and help as much as I can.”
