Unexploded bomb found on popular Scots beach packed with sunseekers

An unexploded bomb has been found on a popular Scots beach as the mercury rises and Scots flock to the sun.

Police have confirmed that they were made aware of the ordinance yesterday on Roseisle Beach in Moray by the Coastguard who are dealing with the incident.

The sandy beach is a popular spot for sun seekers and has been packed during the recent hot weather.

It's understood that the bomb was found and the beach secured with an explosion expected today.

A spokeswoman for the Martime and Coastguard agency said: "Just before 10.30am yesterday the Burghead Coastguard Rescue Team was sent to a suspected ordnance on Roseisle Beach.

"A cordon has been set up and maintained by the coastguard rescue team until the arrival of an EOD team today."

Bombs and other explosives, usually from the world wars, often wash up on Scots shores causing panic.

Last month, specialist units raced to the town of Stromness this morning after the alarm was raised on Orkney.

The teams found the three inch piece 'historic projectile ' with left over TNT.

It is unclear the age or condition of the explosives found on the Moray beach.
