'Unexplained death' in Easton following flat blaze

A body has been discovered in an Easton flat following a fire in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).

Detectives at Avon and Somerset Police have launched an investigation and are currently treating the death as 'unexplained'.

Firefighters were called to a first floor flat on Belmomt Street at 2:19am.

Crews from Temple, Southmead and Bedminster attended the blaze. After they extinguished the flames the body was discovered and police were called.

A force spokesperson said: "We were called to Belmont Street, Bristol at around 2.30am today after a body was found by the fire service while they dealt with a fire.

“The body has yet to be identified and we’re treating the death as unexplained.

“We’re continuing to work with the fire and rescue service to investigate the cause of the fire.”

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called at 2:19am.

"Crews used two breathing apparatus and three high pressured hose reels."
