Unexplained death as man's body is recovered from Ayrshire river

The body of a man was recovered from the River Ayr, near Catrine, earlier today.

Ayrshire Live can reveal how the grim discovery prompted a response by the emergency services to the scene near Catrine and Mauchline, at Howford Bridge.

The incident unfolded around 8.45am this morning and sparked a police presence nearby.

Eyewitnesses also said a helicopter was seen hovering above a wider area around Ochiltree and Mauchline.

It’s understood that Police are treating the man’s death as “unexplained”, though it is believed there are no suspicious circumstances.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 8.45 am on Tuesday, December 28, police received a report a man’s body had been found in the River Ayr, Catrine, near Mauchline.

“Emergency services attended and the man has been recovered from the water.

“The death is being treated as unexplained, however, there do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances. Enquiries are ongoing.”
