Undrafted rookie RB Wes Hills believes he is ‘biggest steal of this draft’

One of many undrafted rookies the Arizona Cardinal signed after the draft is running back Wes Hills. He played originally at Delaware and finished his college career at Slippery Rock. He is not lacking in confidence.

“I was hoping I would get drafted, but that didn’t happen,” Hills said, according to the Arizona Republic’s Bob McManaman. “All I needed was an opportunity and the Cardinals’ organization gave me that opportunity. Personally, I feel like I’ll be the biggest steal of this draft even though I wasn’t drafted. I can’t wait to show them what I can do. They let me get my foot in the door and now I’ve just got to earn my spot.”

Hills is a big back at 6-0 and 218 pounds. By comparison, David Johnson is listed at 6-1, 224. Hills said he has been compared to Johnson by many. Now he gets to have him as a teammate, at least for the offseason.

He was the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl MVP and earned an invite to the Senior Bowl and had a 21-yard run before injuring his ankle.

The Cardinals’ running back room has one real certainty for the roster in David Johnson. Chase Edmonds is probably a near-lock to make the team. After that, it is more up for grabs.

Hills has a chance. That’s all any player can hope to get in the NFL.

It’s hard to be the steal of the draft when you’re not drafted. However, if he makes the team and can contribute, he might end up being the steal of the rookie class.
