Undrafted Damion Willis will start in place of A.J. Green in Week 1

Damion Willis has been the hottest name for the Cincinnati Bengals all summer, and his quick ascension has morphed into one of the NFL’s best outright stories.

According to Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com, the undrafted wideout will start in place of A.J. Green against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.

Like rookie Michael Jordan and Trey Hopkins winning starting jobs in Week 1, Willis getting the nod wasn’t too hard to see coming.

Willis was the starter in the third week of the preseason in Green’s spot instead of Josh Malone or others. He responded by leading the team in receiving and scoring a touchdown.

Undrafted out of Troy, Willis has been consistently singled out by head coach Zac Taylor as a standout player. He’ll get to prove it once the games start to matter by surprisingly starting in place of a superstar wideout.

This also seems to confirm that Green will at least miss the first week of the season. There hasn’t been much in the way of updates there, but it aligns well with the projected timetable from when he went down with an injury at the start of camp.
