A TikTokker has lifted the lid on an “unwanted” and “not talked about” side effect of the weight loss drug Mounjaro.
Mounjaro, a diabetic medicine which also is used as a weight loss aid now, is injected weekly, but now users say they are “waking up” to one very common side effect which they had no idea was coming.
The jabs - which are now being sold in supermarkets including Morrison’s and Tescos - are tirzepatide injections - primarily used to treat type 2 diabetes but is also prescribed for weight loss.
The treatment can help users lose up to 20 per cent of their body weight over the course of a year.
But users say that in the middle of the treatment, they are being hit with an emotional blockage which they were not expecting.
TikTokker @Swedish_Sandra said she has been left feeling a bit “meh” about being on the jabs, and opened up about her experience in staying on track on a recent post about her struggles experiencing the “slow middle”.
She said: “It is the period of time between the before and after photos.
“This phase feels quiet — not the start, not the finish, just the slow middle where everything is shifting but the big change isn’t visible yet.
“It’s easy to feel stuck or wonder if it’s even working.
“But every small step, every tiny win, is progress. It’s about learning to trust the process, be gentle with yourself, and keep going even when it’s tough.
“For the days when you feel like you should be further along. Save this for when the in-between feels heavy—and if you’re up for it, how’s your journey really feeling lately?”
The post clearly resonated with users who agreed.
One added: “You have hit the nail on the head here. I have been struggling for the last month wondering if all this money is worth it. Everything has slowed.”
While another added: “My weight loss has stalled too. I am trying to keep going but it is hard to get used to it when you’re used to such big drops in weight at the start.”
Another user tried to add some clarity in the comments adding: “I get it but it is really important to realise that even a quarter of a pound a week, is a loss in the right direction. Weight loss will slow. It isn’t water weight anymore, it is probably fat. This is the hardest bit mentally. Keep going, you’ve got this.”
And Sandra agreed in the comments, replying: “I completely get that, that initial excitement has died down but you’re not at goal weight yet. Sometimes it feels dull and slow. But those boring moments are the real, steady progress that doesn’t always get the spotlight, even though it’s what really lasts.”
