An underwater search in Tameside on Friday (July 8) was evidence-based, police say.
A search unit van was stationed on Alexandra Road in Hyde, near the Peak Forest Canal, at around 7.30pm on Friday evening. Divers were then pictured searching the water.
The canal path was cordoned off by officers while Tactical Aid Unit officers trawled the surrounding area and crime scene investigators were also at the scene. A sign was also put in place urging boats to stop.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that it was an 'evidence search' as part of an ongoing investigation but did not say which investigation it was. The force also said that it was not linked to any missing person cases.
