Understand your health and build healthy habits with a smartwatch

Huawei .

Whether you’re trying to keep up in that five-a-side kickabout or just stay in good health for your family, most of us would like to maintain – or actively improve – our health. But it’s not always easy to know where to focus your efforts: there’s so much conflicting information on the internet and health is incredibly personal, meaning that someone else’s definition of healthy and active might not match up with your own. So it’s understandable you might not know where to turn to find quality health insights.

And you aren’t alone. Huawei recently commissioned research with Ipsos that surveyed over 8,000 Europeans to study their awareness of their health and their healthy habits. While more than 80% of respondents said they were interested in physical fitness, only 50% revealed that they were actually satisfied with their level of fitness.

It’s also clear that a lot of us struggle to know how to gauge our physical health. When respondents were asked which health measures they most often, the five most common were physical activity level (57%), amount of water consumed (54%), sleep quality / quantity (50%), heart rate (51%) and calories burned (45%) – most of which are more healthy habits than direct insight into how healthy we are. Measured far less often were more objective measures like respiratory rate (37%), blood sugar (34%), body fat (34%) and an ECG examination (26%).

Fortunately, the research also highlighted one key change that can significantly improve your awareness of and satisfaction with your own health: owning a smartwatch. Smartwatch users were found to track key metrics like heart rate, blood oxygenation saturation and calories burned almost three times more regularly than people without a device. On top of this, 47% said notifications from their smartwatch made them exercise more often, while 41% extended the amount of time they spent exercising and 28% changed their diet based on suggestions from their watch. It’s no surprise then that, of the people who responded to the survey, 88% felt owning a smartwatch had improved their physical health and 86% that it had improved their quality of life.

Clearly smartwatches can bring myriad health benefits for their users. But it’s important to know you’re picking up the right gadget to help you track the key fitness metrics. Luckily for you, Huawei’s range of smartwatches has a wide range of features to help you achieve your health and wellness goals.
