Underground drug-smuggling tunnel with rail system and cranes uncovered by police

Spanish police have uncovered a sophisticated drug-smuggling tunnel in Ceuta, a North African exclave, designed to transport hashish from Morocco into Spain.

The elaborate tunnel, hidden beneath an industrial warehouse, featured a rail system and underground cranes across three distinct levels.

Approximately 17 metric tons of hashish and €1.4 million in cash have been seized, and 27 people have been arrested in connection with the sophisticated smuggling ring.

The case has highlighted Spain's critical position as a primary entry point for hashish into the continent. The drug is typically trafficked into the country via speedboats across the sea, but this tunnel highlights the evolving criminal methods.
