Underground democracy

What's your favourite Tube station? Personally, I like the crumbling tiles and dripping ceilings of Great Portland Street best - one of the first "cut and cover" stations to be built, boasting staircases instead of escalators, and reliably quiet at almost any time of day. But other tube travellers obviously disagree. Last year they voted the futuristic Canary Wharf station on the Jubilee line extension their favourite. "I chose this station because it looks like a James Bond villain's lair," one passenger said. The thought of the ground opening up and hurtling me into a murky section of the Thames isn't one I care to dwell upon, but each to their own.

This year, London Underground is holding the competition again, and you have until January 21 to cast your vote. Everyone who does has the chance to win an Oystercard with £100 worth of travel. You're encouraged to concentrate on rather prosaic criteria, and there's definitely no mention of aesthetics, rather "the helpfulness of staff, quality of station announcements, cleanliness and general ambience". Doesn't anyone else appreciate those cute little mice on Northern line platforms? Vote here.
