'Underestimated' - Alan Shearer jokes about Nolberto Solano becoming the next Newcastle boss

Alan Shearer has admitted that he 'absolutely loves' Nolberto Solano after a TV host joked that the latter should become the next Newcastle United manager.

The 46-year-old became a cult figure on Tyneside after two spells across eight years, where he made over 250 appearances, scoring 48 times from left-wing.

He also featured in the Premier League for Aston Villa and West Ham United, before dropping down to join Leicester City, Hull City and then third-tier Hartlepool United.

A set piece specialist, Solano was able spark a bit of magic out of nothing and it's safe to say Newcastle could do with someone like him right now.

But it isn't just his ability as a player that was talked about on ¡Qué Golazo! after presenter Luis Miguel Echegaray asked about whether the Peruvian would be suited to take the managerial job.

"I absolutely love Nobby Solano," Shearer responded.

"He was brilliant at Newcastle. I tell you what, not from me, but he was underestimated by a lot of players outside of Newcastle because I appreciated how good he was. The crosses that he put in.

"Not only was Nobby brilliant on the pitch for Newcastle. He was brilliant off it, because we had some great times with Nobby and his trumpet playing in the bars and the restaurants.

"Wherever Nobby went, his trumpet came with him."

A number of different coaches have been linked with replacing Steve Bruce at Newcastle, including Antonio Conte, Steven Gerrard and Paulo Fonseca.

At the moment, Graeme Jones is currently in charge on an interim basis and he got his tenure off to a positive start with a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace last weekend.

However, he will arguably face the Magpies' toughest opponent so far this season when they host European champions Chelsea on Saturday.
