Undercover police to hunt sexual predators in Swansea's Wind Street bars and pubs

Plain clothes police are to visit Wind Street to identify anyone displaying signs of predatory behaviour.

Officers are to patrol the area with a view to enabling revellers to enjoy their visit without any unwanted behaviour, particularly unwanted sexual advances.

South Wales Police say they will not 'routinely' enter pubs and clubs on the street, but will work with door staff and 'will intervene if concerns are raised'.

The initiative comes as pubs and clubs reopen following the Covid pandemic lockdown.

The plain clothes officers will be working alongside uniformed colleagues.

Detective Sergeant Wilson said: “This initiative is focusing on the night time economy, and the Wind Street area in particular, in order to ensure that anyone visiting can have an enjoyable night without the fear of being subjected to unwanted behaviour, particularly unwanted sexual advances.

"By using specialist officers we will be able to identify any concerning behaviour first hand and intervene quickly.

"Officers will be working alongside door staff to provide guidance in relation to recognising predatory behaviour and if concerns are raised officers will intervene.”

“I would like to provide reassurance that the likelihood of becoming a victim of any type of assault, whether that be a sexual or physical assault, is incredibly low, but that does not limit the harm done on those occasions when such crimes do take place".

Police say the move is being taken to reassure the public, and to prevent incidents developing in and around the Wind Street, the centre of Swansea 's night time economy.
