Underage man charged for using fake licence 'after being caught with Superbad McLovin ID'

The iconic McLovin ID was owned by dorky character Fogell in teen movie Superbad

An American man has been charged for allegedly having a fake driver’s licence inspired by fictional film character McLovin.

Daniel Burleson, 20, was in an Iowa bar when he was caught carrying a “McLovin” Hawaii ID, as seen in the 2007 hit movie Superbad, NBC affiliate WBDU reported.

Burleson was arrested and charged with possession of a fictitious ID card, which is classed as a serious misdemeanour under American law, according to the broadcaster.

He was also charged with public intoxication, being under the legal age in a bar and possessing alcohol under the legal age of 21.

Burleson told police he bought the fake ID off Amazon (Johnson County Jail)

According to a criminal complaint seen by WNDU, Burleson was approached by a police officer at the bar early on Friday. The officer said he saw an alcoholic drink in Burleson's hand and that he admitted it contained vodka.

At first, Burleson refused to show the officer any identification but later gave him an ID card revealing he was under 21, the broadcaster said.

Knowing he would have needed a fake ID to enter the bar, the officer then asked Burleson to hand this over. But he insisted he didn’t have one.

However, while Burleson was flipping through his wallet, the officer spotted a Hawaii ID with the name "McLovin DOB 06/03/1981."

In the hit film Superbad, the character Fogell, played by Christopher Charles Mintz-Plasse, uses his McLovin ID to successfully buy vodka from a shop.

According to the police report, Burleson said he had bought the replica driver’s licence on Amazon.

Burleson was initially held in custody, but later released on condition that he attends his court hearing.

He is due to appear at Johnson County District Court on Monday.
