Under My Skin by James Dawson - review

James Dawson, Under My Skin

James Dawson has done it again. He's written another indescribably bone-chilling and addictive horror book that has altered the positions on my 'favourites shelf'.

Under My Skin tells the tale of a girl named Sally Feather, who unwillingly joins a world of darkness, deceit and pure malevolence after walking into a tattoo parlour. Soon, she finds herself possessed by Molly Sue, who has her doing more evil than she ever thought possible.

To say I enjoyed this book would be an understatement. It was gripping, decadent and jam-packed with unexpected, tense plot twists and attention-grabbing hooks that make you want to read on and on.

I also found myself enticed by all the different characters. The main character, Sally, was both likeable and relatable and, throughout the story, you could really see how she changed and grew as a person. The other characters were all interesting as well, each bringing something different to the story, especially Molly Sue, the dangerous and twisted pin-up who I couldn't help but love to hate.

Overall, Under My Skin was a fascinating and beautifully-written book, riddled with twists and turns that are sure to have you up at night. After reading this, you'll never look at a tattoo the same way again!
