Under-fire social media firm issue defiant response after 'furious' Phil Foden cuts ties

The social media firm that Phil Foden severed ties with after tweeting Kylian Mbappe from his personal Twitter account has hit back.

The Manchester City star was furious following the incident, which happened just moments after his goal helped knock Borussia Dortmund out of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

But the company have stuck to their guns and, in a statement issued to Mirror Sport, insisted that all posts are approved before being sent out.

A tweet was posted from Foden's account, which has close to 500,000 followers, which read "@KMbappe are you ready?" and included a handshake emoji.

Foden and his representatives were left furious by the tweet, which went viral before it was deleted.

The 20-year-old and his representatives were incensed as they insisted it was sent without the midfielder's consent, according to the Telegraph.

It led to the decision to sever ties with Ten Toes Media, who represented the England international's social media channels.

However, they have insisted that all posts are approved before being sent with "no exceptions".

In a statement issued to Mirror Sport, company founder Ben Weisfeld said: “We are saddened with the current situation.

"Since the company was founded we have adopted a process which requires all posts to be approved in advance by the talent / representative – no exceptions.

"They always have been approved - that has been true for 4 years and is still true today.

"Phil Foden is a special person and footballer and we wish him the very best going forward."

Ten Toes Media have worked a number of elite football stars, including Tottenham striker Harry Kane, Real Madrid ace Vinicius Jr and Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof.

Former England and Manchester United defender Gary Neville was a vocal critic of such companies taking charge of players' social media channels.

"I mentioned on here a few weeks ago about players having their accounts run by social media companies," he tweeted. "Lads run your own accounts!"

"Your independent thought and authenticity is at stake. It’s your voice, not anyone else’s."
