Under Armour releases an All-Star Weekend Curry 6 colorway

Just in time for All-Star Weekend in Stephen Curry’s hometown of Charlotte, Under Armour has announced the release of a very special Curry 6 colorway, with North Carolina ties.

Not ties, as in laces, but connections to Curry’s past — specifically, to his mischievous undergraduate days at Davidson College.

Curry had shot his way to the Elite Eight and national stage. While celebrating at a Japanese restaurant, he and teammates decided to steal a koi fish from a pond outside the establishment.

Thus, the shoe is called the Curry 6 Coy Fish colorway, with coy (instead of koi) the intended spelling.

According to Under Armour:

The Curry 6 Coy Fish colorway, homophone intended, tells the origin story of a prankster as he returns to his home in Charlotte for the 2019 All-Star Game. This striking colorway is a nod to the vibrant beauty of the koi fish, featuring a bright yellow fully knit upper, a full-length HOVR midsole and a water-like clear outsole for best-in-class traction.

Curry’s and his teammates’ antics were caught on security video and, as punishment, his coach had them “… in the gym running sprints for a good two hours,” according to Curry. “And then we had to go back to the steakhouse and stay at the  door for four hours as greeters!”

For most people, it doesn’t pay to be a prankster beyond a few laughs. But for Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, the prank is paying off big, as his 2019 catalog of Curry 6 shoes continues to grow.

But beyond what the latest Curry 6 release does for his bank account, Under Armour — from the Fox Theater colorway and moon shoes to the Coy colorway — is chronicling Curry’s life. Some people have journals or scrapbooks to record their lives; Curry has the Curry 6 shoe line from Under Armour.
