Khong Guan Corporation, based in Union City, California, has expanded a recall of two frozen glutinous rice ball products after the company determined they may contain undeclared peanuts, according to an official announcement posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on July 15, 2026.
The recalled products are “Glutinous Rice Balls with Black Sesame Filling” (UPC 6908791000053) and “Black & White Glutinous Rice Balls with Black Sesame Filling” (UPC 6908791000084). Both come in 14.1-ounce flexible plastic bags. The specific “Use By” date codes covered by the recall are 9/22/2027 and 10/19/2027 for the first product, and 10/19/2027 for the second product. Shoppers can find these date codes on the back panel of each bag.
The FDA notes that the products were distributed in packaging that did not disclose the presence of peanuts. For people with a peanut allergy or severe sensitivity, consuming a product with undeclared peanuts can trigger serious or life-threatening allergic reactions.
According to the company announcement, the affected products were sold and distributed from June 2, 2026 through July 8, 2026 through retail stores and online in nine states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, New Jersey, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, and Washington.
The recall was initially triggered after a customer reported suspected peanut content in the Glutinous Rice Balls with Black Sesame Filling. Following further review, Khong Guan Corporation expanded the scope to include the Black & White variety due to similar instances of undeclared peanut allergens. No illnesses have been reported to date, according to the company announcement.
Consumers who purchased either of the affected products are urged not to eat them and should return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Shoppers with questions can contact Khong Guan Corporation directly at 1-877-889-8968, Monday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Pacific Time.
For shoppers who buy frozen or specialty Asian foods at grocery and international retail stores, it is worth checking your freezer for these specific products and UPC codes. Readers should verify their individual situation directly with the FDA or Khong Guan Corporation, as details of recalls can change. The full announcement is available on the FDA’s official recalls and safety alerts page.
