Unconscious teenager found, stranger on school grounds and Covid rise across city

Good afternoon, these are the latest lunchtime ECHO headlines.

Teenage girl, 16, found collapsed near sports centre

A teenage girl was found unconscious in the grounds of a sports centre.

Police received a report of a concern for safety of a 16-year-old girl on Buckingham Street in Everton, near Great Homer Street, in the grounds of the Lifestyles gym.

She was found unconscious and police believe she collapsed between 9.30pm and 10.45pm on Sunday.

Police said extensive CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries are being carried out to establish the full circumstances.

Stranger enters school grounds and approaches children

A man gained access to a school site and approached children as they were arriving this morning.

It has been described as a "distressing incident" by the headteacher of The Priory Parish C.E. Primary School on Aberdeen Street, Birkenhead, Wirral.

In a letter to parents seen by the ECHO, headteacher Greg Edwards said: "Many of you will be aware that we had an incident at school this morning as parents and children were arriving to school.

"Someone who was not known to the school, got access to the site but was stopped by staff and left."

All areas of Liverpool City Region see Covid infections rise

Covid infections have risen in every part of the Liverpool City Region (Colin Lane/Liverpool Echo)

Every part of the Liverpool City Region recorded a rise in positive Covid infections.

According to the latest data from Public Health England, the Liverpool City Region had 5,673 Covid cases in the seven days ending November 17 - that is 365 more cases than over the previous seven days.

In England in the week ending November 17, there was an infection rate of 411.86 per 100,000 people.

The nation recorded 232,910 coronavirus cases, which is 32,533 more cases than in the previous seven days.
