A West Lothian care home has recorded a Covid-19 outbreak.
It’s understood, although not yet confirmed by Burngrange Care Home, that the outbreak is linked to five deaths.
A number of residents and staff at the home in West Calder have contracted the illness and are receiving treatment.
Agency staff working in the home are among those who have tested positive.
The care home was closed to new admissions and visitors when the first case was discovered last week.
The home is run by West Lothian Council and is a 40-bed unit.
A spokesperson for the West Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership said: “There have been a number of positive Covid-19 cases at Burngrange Care Home.
“We are working closely with NHS Lothian’s Health Protection Team and staff at Burngrange Care Home to provide assistance and support to those affected.
“This is a challenging time for everyone involved and our thoughts are with residents, families and staff who have been directly impacted by this situation.
“Staff in the care home are working extremely hard and have a real commitment to the residents’ safety.
“All appropriate control measures are in place, in line with national guidance, and relatives of residents have been notified of the situation.
“To respect and maintain patient confidentiality, no further details will be released.”
