Uncle of Fine Gael MEP Maria Walsh says he is a Donald Trump superfan

New Fine Gael MEP Maria Walsh’s uncle is a superfan of the US President and proud member of Trump International Golf Club.

Brendan Walsh plays regularly on the beautiful golf links and has a house just a short walk from the 14th fairway in Doonbeg, Co Clare.

He was looking forward to meeting the businessman because he said he’s doing a good job across the pond.

Mr Walsh added: “I absolutely love Trump, he’s doing great for America, the economy is booming, things are going great and he is going to win by a landslide come 2020.

“I’m an original member of the golf club and I was in there until all hours last night.

“We met the whole crowd, he [Donald Trump] walked by and then Eric and all of them.

“They were very pleasant, very nice.”

Mr Walsh emigrated to Canada in 1969 and moved to Boston a couple of years later after he met his wife there.

He and his family have holidayed regularly at Doonbeg ever since and have a home there too.

Former Rose of Tralee Ms Walsh celebrated being elected a first-time MEP in her first foray into politics last week.

Mr Walsh said he was “unbelievably proud” of his niece and added she has already visited Brussels ahead of taking her European Parliament seat next month.

Meanwhile, some of our politicians dined as guests of the US Administration in Doonbeg last night.

It was an informal event and the representatives were hosted by Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff, Mick Mulvaney at the 7pm dinner.

Guests included the Government’s man in Washington, John Deasy TD, Fine Gael parliamentary party chairman, Martin Heydon TD, Senator Mark Daly from Fianna Fail and the Mayor of Clare, Michael Begley.

Mr Trump mixed with some of the guests during the evening.
