Uncle Gobb and the Dread Shed by Michael Rosen and Neal Layton - review

I love Michael Rosen’s poems so I was really pleased to see that he has written a children’s book. It is the story of a young boy called Malcolm and his evil Uncle Gobb, who wants all children put in dark sheds called dread sheds when they misbehave.

Fans of Andy Stanton’s brilliant Mr Gum books will recognise features such as random chapters about weasels, chapters that don’t exist, super long chapter titles and cartoon drawings.

Uncle Gobb and the Dread Shed

Overall this was quite a funny book but it was let down by a weak ending. The author built up lots of tension but in the end you have to read the next book to find out what happens. The new book isn’t even out yet so I thought this was a bit lazy.

I’d give this book 6 out of 10 and I’m not sure I’m going to read the sequel.
