UNC basketball's Brandon Robinson will miss game against Duke due to an ankle injury

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. _ Brandon Robinson, who sprained his ankle in North Carolina's game against Boston College on Feb. 1, is expected to miss one to three more weeks with the injury, coach Roy Williams said Thursday.

That means he won't be available for UNC's game against No. 7 Duke (19-3, 9-2 ACC) on Saturday.

Robinson injured the ankle while trying to contest Jared Hamilton's 3-pointer in the final seconds of the 71-70 home loss to Boston College. He was called for a foul, but when he landed, he twisted his ankle.

He had to be helped off the court by two teammates.

Robinson attended UNC's road game against Florida State on Monday. He was on crutches and wearing walking boot. The initial diagnosis for the injury was two to four weeks. It has been a week since he injured it.

The Tar Heels have been struck by a number of player injuries this season, including Cole Anthony, who missed nearly two months after he had surgery in December to repair a partially torn meniscus.

Robinson is the Tar Heels' third leading scorer and is their best 3-point shooter. He is averaging 13.1 points per game, and is shooting 35% from behind the 3-point line.

He leads the Tar Heels with 41 made 3-pointers.

Robinson's season has been marked by a series of unfortunate events. The ankle he injured last week was the same ankle he injured in a preseason game in October. That injury caused him to miss the first four games of the season.

He also missed UNC's game against Virginia Tech after getting into a car accident last month when he was hit in a head-on collision by a woman who was charged with a misdemeanor DWI.

Robinson also injured his ribs and turned his ankle against N.C. State on Jan. 27.

The Tar Heels will start junior guard Andrew Platek in Robinson's place.
