'Unbelievable' - What David Moyes has done at West Ham that impresses Brentford's Thomas Frank

Brentford boss Thomas Frank has hailed the “fantastic” work David Moyes has done at West Ham United ahead of Sunday’s Premier League fixture.

The Hammers head to the Gtech Community Stadium looking for their first win against the Bees in the Premier League after losing all three of their top flight meetings since Brentford were promoted in 2021.

West Ham have enjoyed a couple of good seasons under Moyes, with back-to-back top seven finishes in the last two years. However, this season has been a disappointing one domestically, with the Hammers battling to avoid relegation throughout.

After last Sunday’s win against Manchester United, West Ham have almost secured safety as they sit 15th in the table seven points clear of the relegation zone with three games to go. Despite a poor domestic campaign, the 2022/23 season could be remembered as a successful one.

Moyes’ men are competing in their second European semi-final in the space of 12 months and will take a 2-1 lead into the second leg against AZ Alkmaar next Thursday. Brentford boss Frank says it would be a “fantastic achievement” should West Ham go on to lift the Europa Conference League trophy in Prague on June 7.

“I think it is fantastic what David Moyes and his staff have done in the last year at West Ham,” said the Brentford boss. “They came in, turned things around and they were sixth or seventh and last year [reached the] semi-final in the Europa League and now they’re [in the] semi-final in the Conference League and hopefully going to the final.

“I know they have struggled a little bit, but they are in the semi-final of the Conference League and maybe they are going to lift their first trophy in many years, which will be a fantastic achievement.”

He added: “I think it’s incredibly difficult to be consistent in the Premier League and then you finish top ten, top six and then you want more, but I think it is about having consistency and adding layers every single season.

“What they have built is a strong squad that can compete in the Premier League and in Europe and that is fantastic. A European semi-final two years in a row is an unbelievable achievement no matter what, and maybe they don’t finish in the top ten this season, but that can happen.”
