Unbelievable queue at Sports Direct Aintree and huge lines outside Primark and Zara in city centre

A huge queue of people formed outside Sports Direct in Aintree this morning as the shops were allowed to reopen after lockdown closures.

Hundreds of people waited in the sunshine as the store reopened having been closed since March.

In the city centre there were giant queues outside Primark, Zara and the Sports Direct in Liverpool ONE, with some shoppers waiting hours before stores reopened.

The Primark store was due to reopen at 8am but opened 45 minutes early due to the number of people outside. At one point the queue snaked all the way to the back of the store on School Lane, near the Post Office pub.

We've been covering the reopening of the shops live, and you can see all the pictures and updates here.

All stores apart from those selling essential items were forced to close in March when the lockdown was introduced to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

Some stores have continued to trade online, but with no website Primark has been unable to.

In order to reopen today, shops have had to implement safety measures to keep staff and customers safe. This means the number of customers inside is limited, leading to longer waiting times outside shops.

Changing rooms, in stores cafes and shop toilets remain closed in most stores and markers have been put in place to help people keep two metres apart.
