'Unbelievable' escape as car impaled after hitting timber fence

Four people have survived a horror car crash in the British city of Leeds that saw the vehicle impaled by multiple pieces of timber after hitting a fence.

West Yorkshire Police posted images of the smash on Twitter, describing the occupants of the car as "four of the luckiest people our officers have ever seen".

"Unbelievable how this did not result in multiple fatalities. Thankfully luck was on everybody's side this evening," police said.

The BBC reported a 22-year-old man, who was the driver of the car, suffered serious head injuries in the crash.

The other three passengers aged between 19 and 20 were treated for minor injuries.

No arrests were made and police were appealing for witnesses, the BBC said.
