Unaware Archbishop asked Oprah what she did for living at Meghan and Harry's wedding

The Archbishop of Canterbury sparked hilarity when he asked US chat show host and multi-billionaire Oprah Winfrey what she did for a living at Prince Harry and Meghan's wedding.

Most Rev Justin Welby conducted Meghan and Harry's wedding ceremony at Windsor Castle in May 2018 in fairytale scenes watched across the world.

But with so many royals and famous faces in the congregation it appears the Archbishop chose to make wedding small talk just like the rest of us.

Royal insiders say Most Rev Justin Welby's inability to work out who the talk show host was was 'met with hilarity among his staff', reports the Telegraph.

According to insiders, the Archbishop, gave “psychological as well as spiritual” support to Meghan after her father Thomas pulled out of the wedding.

Oprah has earned the nickname 'the most influential woman in the world' and often interviews some of the most famous people around the globe.

She is well known for hosting her talk show The Oprah Winfrey Show, which ran between 1986 and 2011.

The media mogul owns a cable network and is worth an estimated $2.6 billion (£2 billion).

Meghan and Harry are set to open up in a tell-all interview tomorrow with Oprah which will be aired on CBS tomorrow night.

In the interview, Oprah reveals she called Meghan months before her royal wedding to ask for an interview, which she says she "turned down nicely" at the time.

It is also claimed the Sussexes’ staff got used used to “email bombardments” by Meghan and Harry in the lead-up to their nuptials.

One source said: “The last thing we’d do before going to sleep was reply to their messages and the first thing we’d do in the morning was reply to their messages."

In a teaser shown on CBS This Morning yesterday, Meghan speaks of her relief about no longer being constrained by the royals.

The Duchess of Sussex said Royal Family once gagged her from talking to Oprah Winfrey but she now feels “liberated” to act in her new life.

Meghan, 39, alleges that when she first spoke to the US chat show host three years ago,  their call was eavesdropped on by staff.

It has also emerged that the Queen and Buckingham Palace “do not have an advance copy” of Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah.

Royal aides admitted that “everyone will watch it at the same time”.

Senior members of the Royal Family have urged for “calm amid the storm” ahead of the interview,  which will be shown in the US at 1am UK time on Monday and then at 9pm on ITV.
