Unai Emery 'transfer hint' suggests Arsenal have been keen on Hakim Ziyech for some time

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Ajax star Hakim Ziyech this January.

But is seems the Gunners may have been tracking the Moroccan midfielder for some time, if a rogue Twitter 'like' from former boss Unai Emery is anything to go by.

Back in the summer, then Arsenal manager Emery was handed a £140million budget - and splashed the cash on five new players and one loan signing.

The Gunners had been linked to a number of players including Ziyech, but failed to make a bid for the Ajax man, who would have cost a bomb.

Emery appeared to confirm Arsenal's interest at the time when he 'liked' a Twitter post suggesting the club should sign Ziyech.

The translated post read: "There are new players this week, bro? Ziyech said he was waiting for a call from Arsenal."

Emery later 'unliked' the tweet, but not before it was shared among excited Arsenal supporters on social media.

It's no secret that Arsenal have a board of advisers responsible for bringing players in, and while Emery has been swapped for Mikel Arteta, the people above him have remained.

It is therefore not unbelievable to think that the players on Arsenal's radar back in the summer remain on the radar this January. Ziyech may well be on the Gunners' wishlist.

Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the midfielder after Ajax reportedly told Ziyech he can leave this month.

This should, in theory, prevent his price tag from spiralling beyond Arsenal's reach.
