Unai Emery told to 'reject' Newcastle United's advances as major manager claim made

Unai Emery has been told to reject Newcastle's advances amid a lack of vision at the Magpies, according to the latest reports.

The BBC says sources close to the Villareal boss claim Emery felt the Newcastle owners "lacked a clear vision for the club" and have tipped him to stay in Spain.

The former Arsenal boss addressed speculation linking him with the vacant position at St. James' Park, but revealed a formal approach had not come to fruition.

The new Magpies hierarchy had hope to have the Spaniard instilled as their new boss prior to this weekend's game against Brighton.

However, Spanish football expert Guillem Balague says those advising Emery were left feeling uncertain about the club's strategy.

Yesterday it emerged that Emery was on a shortlist of two, alongside former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe - two men with different approaches and different levels of experience.

Balague said: "Emery felt a huge pressure on the day of their match [a 2-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday].

"And then there was the lack of a clear vision from the club. If you want him, do you approach him in such a rushed way, without an official offer and with it coming out from the English side that it is all practically done?

"I don't see this move happening now this season. Maybe next year when the club's structure is clearer and the vision more defined."

The Magpies project does interest Emery, according to the report, however after speaking with the Villareal owners, players and family, all three parties have told the former Arsenal boss it was 'not the right time' to take over at St. James' Park.
