Unai Emery to Everton: Huge boost for ex-Arsenal boss as Vitor Pereira withdraws from race

Unai Emery was sacked by Arsenal at the end of last month.

Following seven games without a win across all competitions for the Spaniard at the helm at the Emirates Stadium, his 18 month tenure was brought to an end less than 24 hours after a 2-1 loss at home to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.

The Gunners hierarchy had wanted to give him time to turn things around, patience finally ran out on November 29, 2019.

However, Emery could be back in the Premier League very soon.

With prior success at Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain, the 48-year-old's reputation remains intact and there's reports he could become the next Everton manager.

Here's everything we know about the Unai Emery to Everton rumour.

Marco Silva sacking

Everton sacked Marco Silva last week.

The decision came less than 24 hours after the Toffees were beaten 5-2 by Liverpool in the Merseyside derby - a result which left the side in the Premier League relegation zone.

A statement via the club's official website read. "Everton Football Club can confirm that manager Marco Silva has left the Club.

"Majority Shareholder Farhad Moshiri, Chairman Bill Kenwright and the Board of Directors would like to thank Marco for his service over the last 18 months and wish him well for the future.

"Duncan Ferguson has taken temporary charge of the first team and will manage the side for the game against Chelsea on Saturday.

"The Club aims to confirm a new permanent manager as swiftly as possible."

Everton 'approach Emery'

Following Siva's sacking Sky Sports claimed that Emery has been approached by the Merseyside outfit about potentially taking over.

Duncan Ferguson oversaw a win in his first game as interim head coach against Chelsea at the weekend.

But it would appear that the Toffees are targeting a more experienced manager for the long-term.

However, not all Everton fans seem convinced Emery is the right man for the job.

Take a look at some of the responses right here.

Emery boost?

In what could be a boost for Emery's chances of getting the Everton job, one of his rivals for the role has pulled out of the running.

Vitor Pereira has made the decision to stay at Shanghai SIPG despite being high on the Toffees' list to replace Silva.

"It's an honour and I'm grateful to be considered by a club I have so much respect for but I am still coach of SIPG and SIPG is a club close to my heart," Pereira told Sky Sports News.

"It means that in this moment I'm not in a position to make any other commitments. I need time to think and plan my future by looking at the options I have."
