Unai Emery slammed for changing Mesut Ozil decision in Liverpool vs Arsenal thriller

Mesut Ozil was at the centre of a remarkable game of football between Liverpool and Arsenal on Wednesday night, but not for too long.

The German made only his third appearance of the season as the Gunners headed to Anfield for their Carabao Cup fourth round tie.

The highlight of Ozil's night came after a short James Milner backpass to home goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was intercepted by Ainsley Maitland-Niles, but the ball looked to be heading out of play only for the playmaker to keep it in.

He then cleverly flicked it back for Maitland-Niles to score, making it 4-2 to the Gunners.

It was a moment that had fans purring, but 10 minutes later - after Liverpool had made it 4-4 - Ozil was replaced.

The Reds then went on to win on penalties after an incredible 5-5 draw, with youngster Curtis Jones slotting home the winner in the penalty shootout.

Emery had suggested that Ozil could play 90 minutes before the game, saying: "We’re expecting the side to play a good match and there will be competition for sure.

"We’ve won it twice so everyone is playing because they want to win.

"He [Ozil] can help us and tonight is a good opportunity with him. He knows his team-mates and he knows how we play.

"He’s playing in his best position and we want him to use his qualities in this shape. Physically I feel he can be good and perhaps he can play the full 90 minutes."

So with that in mind, fans weren't happy to see him go off during a remarkable game.

It remains to be seen whether Emery includes Ozil in the team for the weekend clash with Wolves , but Gunners fans don't seem to sure.
