Unai Emery singles out three players for praise after Arsenal's win in Frankfurt

Unai Emery praised his Arsenal youngsters after clinching a “big” result in the Europa League.

Arsenal academy graduate Joe Willock scored while teenager Bukayo Saka was also on target and provided two assists as they made a dream start to their European campaign.

Gunners boss Emery said: “This competition is a big challenge we are excited to do something important. To start with a big result against a good team is important.

“The youngsters’ performance tonight was good and they deserve it. Maybe with his [Saka] goal, with his performance, but also in the match taking confidence, finishing really strongly physically.

“And also with Emile (Smith Rowe), after his injury tonight he played for the first time this season and he worked well. Willock also, progressively he was feeling better and with a good performance.

“We knew the match would be difficult because they are very strong here and defensively we needed to work.

“I want to create a big spirit working tonight and sometimes we are going to have a plan and use different players. It depends on each match.”

Arsenal left back Sead Kolasinac went off with a slight injury but should be fit to face Aston Villa on Sunday while Emery also said that full backs Kieran Tierney and Hector Bellerin will play Wolves in the under-23s on Friday.

Frankfurt boss Adolf Hutter, whose side had Dominik Kohr sent off, said: “Of course it's a bad defeat because the result and the performance does not fit to each other.

“We played a good match in the first half created a lot of chances and Arsenal also had one or two chances in the first half but we could have scored and together with the fans it would have given us more confidence.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi - who was told he could leave in the summer and had no future at the club - insists he will remain professional after making his first appearance of the season.

Mustafi said: “I‘ve never been someone, who begins a war when something doesn‘t work out.

“I always said: If it is possible, I am open to take the next step. If not, I keep playing my football.
