Arsenal boss Unai Emery says ‘being competitive against Man Utd’ makes Old Trafford draw a ‘good point’

Arsenal manager Unai Emery says giving Manchester United at game at Old Trafford makes their 1-1 draw a ‘good point’ to take back to London.

The Gunners secured a share of the spoils thanks to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s second half strike, in match where neither side showed enough ruthlessness in front of goal with the game there to be won.

After levelling the match, Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka spurned a golden chance to put the visitors ahead, but rather than focus on what might have been, Emery looked to highlight the positives.

"It's not the best result,” he told Sky Sports. “In the first half they pressed a lot but we controlled the match with good possession. At half-time we spoke about being calm and we tried to find our moment to win the match. After our game they improved little by little. They had some chances to score and at the end I think the draw is a deserved result for both teams.”

"We can be better defensively and we are going to sometimes need to do more offensively. I want more control with the ball, to create better chances. But being competitive against Manchester United here is a good point.”

Saka - handed a start by Emery with Alexandre Lacazette sidelined - provided the assist for Aubameyang’s equaliser. A chance the Arsenal striker took with aplomb.

Emery praised his star forward after his fourteenth goal in as many starts, adding that he hoped to instil that level of confidence in some of his teammates.

"[Pierre-Emerick] Aubameyang is very important for us. He is very committed with his work. He is happy and we are happy. I want to give confidence for [Nicolas] Pepe and [Reiss] Nelson to have more chances and to have more possibilities to score."
