Unai Emery’s incredible promise to Arsenal fans that came true in Liverpool thriller

Arsenal were involved in one of the games of the season on Wednesday night, as they lost out to Liverpool on penalties in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

In a match that was full of twist and turns, it seemed that some players were competing to score the goal of the game as well as helping their team to progress to the next stage of the competition.

It looked as though Joe Willock's long range effort was enough to see Unai Emery's men push aside their opponents, with Arsenal leading 5-4 going into the final minute of stoppage time.

However, Divock Origi had other ideas, and his second goal of the game to make it 5-5, meaning that it would be down to penalties to decide who would go through.

Dani Ceballos was the only player to not see his spot kick hit the back of the net, much to the delight of Jurgen Klopp and his team.

The match was a thrilling encounter for the neutral, and if it wasn't for Origi's intervention, Unai Emery would have kept a promise that he made when first joining the club back in 2018.

In an interview with the official Arsenal website upon his arrival at the club, the Gunners' boss spoke about the characteristics of his typical team.

"With personality. This personality for all the minutes of a match: protagonists. I like the possession with the ball, I like good pressing against the other team." he said

"I prefer to win 5-4 than win 1-0."

Judging by them comments, there could be a few more nine or ten goal thrillers on the horizon under Emery.
