Unai Emery's comments on Zaha & Wan-Bissaka is fantastic news for Arsenal's academy stars

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery wants to mirror what Crystal Palace have done with Wilfried Zaha and Aaron Wan-Bissaka .

The Eagles have a rich history of producing players from their academy.

Victor Moses, Wayne Routledge, Nathaniel Clyne and Ben Watson are just some of the names to have come through the production line at Selhurst Park down the years, while there were high hopes for John Bostock as a teenager prior to him joining Tottenham Hotspur.

Nicolas Pepe's agent confirms talks over £70m summer transfer amid Arsenal links

And now the search is on for the Gunners to do exactly the same.

Progression from academy player to the first-team at the Emirates Stadium has been a rarity in recent years, with Alex Iwobi, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Hector Bellerin currently the only home-grown players in the senior squad.

Emery is keen to oversee more graduates during his time in north London and has used Zaha, who football.london understands the Gunners have a serious interest in ahead of the summer transfer window, and Wan-Bissaka as examples.

"They are two very good players,” he said of Zaha and Wan-Bissaka, as per FourFourTwo . "They are improving a lot and giving Palace a big performance for their success.

"We have here also young players coming from the academy, training with us, playing some matches with us.

"My responsibility is to work with them and give them the possibility to train with us and show the capacity to get into the first team with regularity and also in the future show they can be important players for us."

These comments will be music to the ears of many Gunners supporters as well as a number of the club's most promising players.

Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe could have a key role to play when they return from loan spells in the summer, Eddie Nketiah has been on the fringe of the first-team this season and there's a few academy players who have caught the eye.

Bukayo Saka has featured in the Europa League as well as the Premier League this term, while Xavier Amaechi and Tyreece John-Jules are highly-regarded within the club.
