Unai Emery reveals when he will name the new Arsenal captains

Unai Emery has revealed that he will appoint the new Arsenal club captains after the Gunners' Carabao Cup match against Nottingham Forest.

Arsenal have been without an official club captain since the summer departure of Laurent Koscielny who left to return to his home nation. He refused to travel on The Gunners' pre-season tour in order to force the move.

The transfer left the club and Unai Emery with a decision to make ahead of the new season as to who would take up the role, despite Granit Xhaka wearing the armband, no decision has yet been officially made.

A captains group is likely, with a number of players working together in order to lead the team.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal's Europa League opener against Eintracht Frankfurt, Emery has said then there will be an answer to the question of the captains by this time next week.

"My focus was to speak about the match and the players," he said.

"I am going to propose to do it next week after the match on Tuesday after the Carabao Cup."

Speaking back in the summer, Emery revealed the names that could be in the frame to take over the role.

"We have players with the capacity, one is Granit, he was a captain in the dressing room. We have others like Mesut, Nacho. There are other players who can take this position also," he said.

"I want between three and five captains in the team."
